Going Green with Green Salon Collective!

We are excited to announce that Kleek Apprenticeships has partnered with the Green Salon Collective, marking a great leap towards sustainability! This initiative will allow us to recycle hair cuttings, foils, and colour tubes across all six of our academies, helping us reduce waste and contribute to a greener planet.

How It Works

Starting from 1st March 2025, we will introduce an optional £1 Green Fee to all our services. This small contribution will go directly towards the collection and disposal of the waste materials and help supports our recycling efforts through the Green Salon Collective. This will roll out across all our Kleek Academy locations in Colchester, Darlington, London Maidstone, Newcastle and Stockton.

Why Do It?

Foil takes up to 500 years to break down in landfills, and the foil we use in salons is further contaminated with chemicals. Although foil is infinitely recyclable, more than 98% of UK salon metals aren’t recycled. In addition, hair cuttings that end up in landfills release methane as they slowly decompose, a harmful greenhouse gas.

The Impact
Green Salon Collective donates 100% of any money raised from recycling the waste it collects from salons. The profits made support charities and organisations. For example, in 2021 £7230 was raised and donated. In 2023, they donated 193 haircuts to Haircuts4Homeless, a charity which helps build self-esteem for homeless people and gives them someone to talk to. The same year they donated 1134 meals to FoodCycle, a charity that provides nutritious meals to those who need it in the community.
