Hairdressing Apprentice Fleur Overcomes Life-Changing Injury to Pursue Dream Career
Kleek Apprenticeships learner Fleur Scott is proving that determination, resilience and passion can overcome even the toughest challenges.
Fleur Scott, a Level 2 Hairdressing Apprentice at SALON64 in London, has shown extraordinary perseverance after sustaining a serious head injury just seven months into her hairdressing apprenticeship with Kleek.
The accident resulted in post-concussion syndrome, short-term memory loss, numbness and tingling in her hands, and a pronounced stammer. Despite these significant challenges, Fleur remained committed to completing her apprenticeship and building a successful career in professional hairdressing.
Through dedication, hard work and the support of both SALON64 and Kleek Apprenticeships, Fleur continued developing her skills, often spending additional time outside of work practising cutting and styling techniques to stay on track with her training.
Today, Fleur's determination has opened doors to exciting opportunities beyond the salon, including work on fashion shoots, television productions and creative collaborations.
We caught up with Fleur as she reflects on her journey...
Building a Hairdressing Career Against the Odds
Reflecting on her journey, Fleur said:
“Nothing will hold me back. I want to be a global name in hairdressing, and am happy to embrace my stammer and differences, and educate others along the way.
I do additional training on my days off - in particular for my cutting and styling (which I hope to specialise in to start with!).
I have also gotten involved in various projects either through my salon and the owner's recommendations, or by looking online and actively researching and applying for different opportunities. I have also directly reached out to stylists, designers and collaborators.
As a result, I have worked on a variety of fashion shoots and TV productions outside of Kleek Academy and my wonderfully supportive SALON64. I have worked for the likes of 'Wavey' haircare, the BBC's Paralympics 2025, DISNEY+ 'A Thousand Blows' and numerous independent fashion shows and more.
I often collaborate with fellow creatives and direct my own photo shoots (doing hair!) so I can start building an online portfolio for myself. I also assist established hairdressers and session stylists wherever possible too.
I hope to be on the shop floor of the wonderful SALON64 (who like Kleek Apprenticeships have been unwavering in their support both before and after I sustained my life-changing injury) very soon, when I qualify and gain my hairdressing qualification."

"My ultimate goal is to integrate my passion for fashion and session styling into my hairdressing career.
My accident and the resulting changes have ignited my passion for hairdressing more than ever before; I never want to take my health for granted - and want to go as far as my body and hands will allow me.
A personal goal of mine is to create more hairdressing content that incorporates my stammer, helping me to further grow my confidence with my newfound voice and to share my passion for hairdressing and my personal style - and to encourage a community of inquisitive and like-minded people to embrace the challenges that life throws at you and utilise them as a tool for good.”
"We're so glad to be part of Fleur's Hairdressing Journey..."
Front of House Manager at SALON64, Freya Scott shared:
''Fleur is a core member at SALON64; she works well under pressure and has a real passion for hairdressing. She always helps the team with anything they need and has provided excellent hair and gents services on numerous big events.
Since her injury, Fleur has struggled massively with her speech and memory; this was a real knock on her confidence, but she has worked hard not to let this affect her in the salon and at college. Fleur takes on any tasks or challenges that come her way and never turns down an opportunity, no matter how small it is. We’re so glad to be a part of Fleurs hairdressing journey and were very proud of how well she is doing and all the challenges she has overcome. She has an amazing outlook on her stammer and is embracing the new her, stammer, and all!''
