The Advanced and Creative Hairdressing Apprenticeship

This level 3 hairdressing apprenticeship is perfect for learners who want to expand their knowledge and skills to become a more creative, technical hairdresser.

It will make you a more technical stylist with advanced and specialised hairdressing skills.

Your Hairdressing Apprenticeship

The Advanced Hairdressing Apprenticeship is available for any learner above the age of 16, we would highly recommend that all learners complete the Hair Professional Apprenticeship – Level 2 before embarking on the advanced program.

The hairdressing apprenticeship will last between 15 - 18 months, on average. During your apprenticeship you will be earning a wage while learning your skills, an apprentice will be employed in a salon for a minimum of 30 hours per week and will be entitled to all the benefits of your qualified colleagues.

The Qualification

During the apprenticeship you will be assessed on your knowledge and understanding of the six mandatory units. These assessments will be completed by your Kleek Educator to the requirements of our awarding body.

Apprentices will be working towards the Advanced and Creative Hairdressing Apprenticeship and after completing the program you will be advanced stylist with specialist skills and the options to further your education with other apprenticeships.

The Units

There are six mandatory units and to be awarded the Advanced and Creative Hairdressing Apprenticeship you must achieve in all these.

The aim of this unit is to develop the learner’s knowledge, understanding and skills to provide a comprehensive consultation and advisory service to clients. Client consultation is critical to the success of all technical services to ensure that learners fully engage with clients to meet their needs and expectations.

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills to use a variety of cutting techniques to personalise and create a collection of styles. The learner will discover how to enhance colours with the use of cutting to create a collection of hairstyles.

The aim of this unit is to develop learners' knowledge, understanding and skills to use a variety of advanced, creative styling and finishing techniques. The learner will combine, adapt and personalise a range of skills to achieve a variety of styling and finishing techniques, resulting in a style collection.

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills to use a variety of smoothing and strengthening systems. The learner will combine, adapt and personalise a range of techniques to achieve a variety of smoothing and strengthening effects on the hair.

This unit is about advanced and creative colour services. Learners must be able use a range of colouring and lightening techniques to achieve a variety of fashion effects and in addition demonstrate the advanced skills necessary to determine and correct complex colouring problems. To achieve this unit, learners must be able to remove artificial colour, remove bands of colour, recolour lightened hair, recolour hair that has had artificial colour removed, perform pre-pigmentation and pre-softening methods and correct highlights and lowlights.

The aim of this unit is to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to produce a collection of hairstyle looks. Learners will be able to design, organise and create their unique collection of hairstyles. Learners will demonstrate advanced level practical skills through planning, creating, presenting an evaluating their final looks.

How The Apprenticeship Works

If you have chosen the in work learning route you will also receive monthly salon visits from your educator to support you through the training.

Completing The Apprenticeship

At the end of your hairdressing apprenticeship, after you have successfully completed the unit assessments, you will receive a Certificate of Unit Achievement. This allows you to progress onto the Gateway stage of the apprenticeship.

The Gateway is a period where we will review your knowledge, skills and behaviours to see if you have met the minimum requirements and are ready to take the End Point Assessment.

What is the End Point Assessment?

The End Point Assessment or EPA is an assessment of all the knowledge, skills and behaviours you have learned throughout your apprenticeship, it confirms you are ready to take the next steps in your hairdressing career.

These assessments have been designed and developed, by employers in the hairdressing industry, to reflect the daily work of a hairdresser. This makes them very sought after by employers across the industry.

After you have passed all the elements of the EPA, including any required standards in English and maths, you will receive your apprenticeship certificate.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?

After you have completed your Advanced and Creative Hairdressing apprenticeship you will have reached the pinnacle of hairdressing apprenticeships and are able to become a State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council. 

There are further apprenticeships available to you, such as our specialist Barbering Apprenticeship or Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship, which will allow you to increase your knowledge add to your skill set and become ever more valuable to your salon.
