What is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining hands-on experience to excel in a career.
Developed by experts in the hair and beauty industry, it is a work-based training program designed to give you the highest quality skills in areas you and your employer need them most.
You will learn all the skills, knowledge, and behaviours you need to be a successful member of the salon team and to develop a successful career. On completion, you will receive a government and employer-recognised debt-free qualification.
An apprenticeship will last 15 - 18 months on average during which time you will be earning an apprenticeship wage while learning your skills. You will be employed in a salon for a minimum of 30 hours per week and will be entitled to all the benefits of your qualified colleagues.
Starting Your Apprenticeship
Before you start out on your exciting journey into apprenticeships there are a few thing you will need to do.
You should have a professional and up to date Curriculum Vitae or CV and a fantastic covering letter to introduce yourself to any prospective employers. If you don't have these already and you need some assistance you can take a look at our guide on how to write a CV for your apprenticeship and there are loads of websites available that can point you in the right direction.
A couple of great sites to use would be the Apprenticeship Guide, who have a wide range of guides and advice, Get My First Job where you can register, enter a few details and they will build a CV for you, or the National Careers Service.
